Page 108 – Queen Lila
So much for keeping a low profile. Looks like Jane is back in the spotlight.
I’m really happy with how Her Maj turned out, she’s a mashup of Michelle Nichols and Alexandra of Denmark.
Here’s some work-in-progress shots used in the making of the page. I layout out the panels and text on the computer, add reference images, and trace the poses onto marker paper. Then redraw the actual characters in those positions. Ink the line art, and scan it all back into the computer.
Can’t wait for the next page?
Vote for I, Mummy to see a preview!
I’m a bit wary of her, given that she clearly is either unaware of or instigating the obviously corrupt nature of her government, but personality-wise, I like how unflappable she is, observing this argument calmly as if she’s used to seeing this day in and day out and going, “Hmm, that thing over there looks unusual. Let’s get a closer look”.
The assassins in the previous book, according to undead Doctor Santos, appeared to be isolating the queen by removing her competent advisers, like Jane’s mom. But, Queen Lila is a force of nature.
if queenie is smart, she has independent intel sources, and should be at least partly aware that the sheriff is up to no good. perhaps this whole scene is a setup to get the sheriff to incriminate himself. if that is so, most of those “courtiers” are actually soldiers or palace guards. if not, this will probably get very ugly.
i love the animation in the women’s expressions.
You could be right. 😉 As mentioned in my reply to Melaredblu, her Maj is working from limited intel because some of her more competent advisers had “accidents”.
Something about her just screams. “..let the eat cake”. ><
Jane has one chance to make a good impression and plead her case. I am not sanguine about either possibility. 🙁
Everyone loves cake, why can’t they eat cake? 🙂 Of course, nothing ever goes as planned in this story. More surprises next week.
