Page 126 – The Lady of Mazama
Mazama is the name of the ancient volcano that erupted 7,700 years ago resulting in present day Crater Lake, Oregon when it’s magma chamber emptied and collapsed. Mazama’s last eruption was a minor one in 2290 BC that pushed up the island known today as Wizard Island. In this story the palace is located on Wizard Island, in the middle of a lake in the middle of an old volcano.

the queen certainly knows how to seize a moment. she bound a powerful ally to her service while implicitly driving in the point that marry is her chosen successor. I’m impressed by the relative lack of ceremony of her court. much easier to move quickly that way.
nickenberry must have set a record for plans backfiring. not only did he fail.not only did his own people refuse to back him, but his right hand woman turned against him. his adversary got the title he wanted. and he didn’t just die, his soul was obliterated.
are we going to learn about more of the world? is there a map? is there an east american empire?
This queendom sure does lack a lot of formal pomp and frill. 🙂 To be honest, I didn’t want to spend a lot of pages on formal ceremonies, I’m easily bored and want to get to the fun stuff coming up.
There is a map of Crater City in Vol 1 page 53. But, I have not mapped out the entire continent, yet. There are four kingdoms covering the North American continent: East, West, North and South. If things go as planned, the Prince of Canada might make an appearance in the next volume. My approach to world building is to use the fog-of-war approach and make stuff up as I go along. It leaves open wild possibilities.
Hah! “Right hand woman”…
Left-handed now
So was she actually knighted or just given a title? Usually when you knight a woman, she’s named Dame, not Lady.
I can’t decide if Marry’s expression is either because she’s still too upset at the moment to be relieved/proud, or if this new turn of events has her equally worried. Hmm, which could it be…
Dame it! I knew that, and for the life of me I cannot remember why I went with “lady”. Oh well, I’ll put it in my “to do” fix list. Thanks!
I thought this was a bit of good news for Jane after all the crap she’s gone through, but as others in the comments so astutely stated, this is another burden placed on Jane beyond her control. (It’s not like she was going to say no to the Queen in front of the kingdom, especially not in her full mummy wraps and tattered rags)
Oh god
this is America.
I…
I need to lie down.
