Page 22 – This Ghoul
Damn, the feels!
As her guide Sir Ghost must answer Jane’s questions as truthfully as he can. But, that doesn’t mean he has to tell her anything she doesn’t know to ask about. Like some selfishly twisted version of Buddhist philosophy.
Did you catch the visual metaphor in the first panel? Angels are this volume’s “Bad Wolf”.
Return to this spot on Mummday when Jane asks, “Why did you do this to me?”
Original Script
Jane is shocked and horrified. MOM Are you going to faint? Rohit, get the salts. JANE Feeling violated, withdrawn I-I’ve been possessed by this-this … ghoul. MOM Are you sure? JANE Still hurt Yes, the bonds that tie Sir Tyree to me compel him to answer my inquiries. He cannot lie.
Yup. That first panel was great. I feel I should recognise the more specific imagery as well, but I can’t place it. Oh, and Sir Tyree. Was hoping he was above this, but he clearly doesn’t give an eff, judging from the arrogant hip hold on panel 6. I’m interested in seeing his reasoning for doing it. Other than taking the opportunity to be an ass to people.
Everyone in the story is pretty selfish (so far). Except dad. Dad is clueless.
I don’t believe I used any iconic figure poses in this page, just photographic references to get body proportions right. I’m still not very good at drawing people from scratch, but it’s improving.
poor jane. i would have expected anger instead of despair. i don’t doubt that’s coming. speaking of sal volatile, are they still using old timey medicines in jane’s time?
Healthcare technology is a mix of old and the fantastical. No leeches, but a steam-powered humour extractor would fit right in. Now there’s a scary thought.
But is kicking his ghost butt still an option?
In all seriousness, I also love the first panel. I hadn’t spotted it at first, but that is some very clever framing you have there.
All things considered, the others are taking Jane being possessed pretty well so far. I guess when you’ve been living with a mummy for that long, things stop fazing you.
The fact that everyone in this story seems to take everything in stride is one of those things I keep having to work on. My bland personality is rubbing off on the characters.
But, mamma bear isn’t going to take this lying down.
I don’t know, I think it kind of makes sense. I mean, clearly they’re bothered by it, they just aren’t panicking or being skeptical because it sounds impossible. Given the situations they’ve been it, their reactions seem reasonable to me.
Gentlemen and ladies never panic.
That’s what peasants do. 😉
I honestly thought it was the necklace.
