Page 35 – All By Myself
And she’s off, like a rocket.
Original Script
MOM Please, your condition. To her husband lurking by the door. Dear, go message Deacon Brewere at once. Perhaps he can— JANE Shouting at her mother. This is all your fault! And you don’t even care! DAD Don’t speak to your… JANE I don’t need any of you! I’ll take care of this myself. By myself! Runs out of the house at high speed.
I somehow don’t think this is going to go nearly as well as Jane thinks it’s going to.
What? She goes out, gets her necklace back, and everything returns to “normal”. Happily ever after. It couldn’t be simpler. Right?
Oh sure, tantrums are fun while they last. It’s the cleaning up and apologizing that’s the worst part.
Still, she’s made her point-she’s upset, she’s young, she’s headstrong, and she’s in deep trouble.
Jane can always blame Sir Ezra for any poor choices and bad behavior. “It wasn’t me. I must have been possessed, again.”
One of the hallmarks of someone who is in over their heads, is focusing on peripheral things which they can deal with while ignoring those more vital things which they cannot.
I also strongly suspect that being deprived of the amulet will have a deleterious effect on Jane’s new hairdo and her solar ray sensitivity.
You are correct on all counts. 🙂 And it ain’t gonna be pretty. 🙁
She’s not entirely wrong about her mother’s role…
True. But, desperate people try questionable approaches if there’s a glimmer of hope. Her mom was hoodwinked into believing Madame Simza was what she claimed to be, and not a thief.
Ugh… Nasty. Well, this is a difficult situation. Hopefully, she just needs to blow off steam, before getting her head together, and coming up with a plan for where to go next. If nothing else, Madame Simza isn’t neccesarily the kind who blends into crowds easily. She will be seen.
Yeah, I bet you’re right. (sly wink) What could possibly go wrong.
Why do I have the feeling she’s gonna start frying like so much bacon the instant she steps outside…?
Good thing it’s dark outside. Don’t worry, Jane won’t fry. Probably. Or, as she described her condition to her older sister in the previous volume, “Puss filled sun blisters.” 🙂
Well, considering that I couldn’t draw a person walking or running down stairs, I don’t have much of a basis for criticising your drawing of Jane’s apparent falling down the stairs. I do like the “Gaslight” comic rendition you have clearly worked at perficting.
Great Comic!
Thank you for reading. Glad you like the ye old tyme effect.
And, given that I’ve had 2.5 years of practice since this page was made, all I see are things I’d like to fix. 😀
