Oh no!
Morris and Flan, two more of Crater City’s… well, lower paid actors in this metropolis’ security theater.

Jane is startled. Behind her are two heavily armed city watch men, rifles raised. Not the same ones that were following them. These are lower rank. Flightless. GUARD 2 Snatches Jane’s fancy dress from her hand. What have we here? JANE That’s my— GUARD 1 Kicks her to the ground Shut it! Thieving malkintrash. Hahaha... GUARD 2 Sniffs the dress Mmm, I’d like to blow the groundsils with the ewe what wore this. JANE Suddenly standing again. Do you know who I am?! GHOST Jane, don’t! GUARD 2 Ha! I think it likes you, Flan. JANE Grabs the gun. I’m warning you, jacknape! GUARD 1 Stay back, leper! BANG! GHOST No!
I don’t see rifles, only pistols…
Wow, well spotted! 🙂
A few details about these beat cops got switched at the last minute. Originally they were both men, too. The missing rifles aren’t a mystery clue or error, they just would have been awkward in the scene.
Gahh…that fourth panel creeps me out way more than it probably should. I mean, I know he doesn’t know, but…ugh.
Totally intentional. 🙂 Thank you! I wasn’t sure how creepy to make these thugs so this scene went through a LOT of versions.
This dirty talk isn’t what we should expect from a victorian policeman.
They’re not paid enough to mind their manners. These two are not much better than most of the criminal they haul in.
WARNING, WARNING! Steep learning curve ahead!
Truth
anger issues. poor impulse control. jane is such a teen. if the seeming sudden end of the story doesn’t make it moot, jane probably won’t age physically, although she may wither a bit. i wonder if her personality will mature or if she will be a perpetual teen. not that those of us who are not (yet) life-challenged necessarilly do a lot of maturing.
I honestly don’t know if Jane will grow up physically, but she’ll at least gain from experience. The next volume will take place at least 10 years later, so this is significant.
What do you think? If she can’t mature she’d end up a developmentally disadvantaged adult. On the other hand, if she does age then she’d also grow older and older like everyone else.
on one hand, if being dead already she can’t die again, an immortal getting physically older and older brings up one of the uglier greek myths. on the other hand, an adult mind in a teen body could easily get kind of creepy. (a story about an undead being getting creepy? unpossible!). perhaps the most palatable possibility is that she grows to adulthood then stops aging.
Thanks, I looked up Tithonus. Ugh, that’s harsh.
I have to go with the “grows older” option, because I’ve already drawn her taller and older than she was when she first discovered the cursed necklace. The problem is, I don’t remember why. I guess change is always more entertaining than the status quo.
Oh crap! Did you just shoot Jane in the face?
NOOO! Not the face. Anywhere but the face!
Arthur’s battle cry from “The Tick”; “Not in the face!!! Not in the face!!!”
