Nice try, pal. As with so many important lessons, this one was learned too late.
Jane looks like she might be hesitating. But the heart is heavier than the feather. I don’t know if she can stop the justice crocodile from coming. Or even if she’d want to.
It looks like a close one, folks. We may have to review the instant replay on this.
BTW, all Jane does is force the defendant to feel how their past actions have impacted others. I wonder if this trick would work on a real psychopath? Ooh, foreshadowing? 🙂
from what we’ve seen so far, she’s probably doing better on the weighing than most of the local cops including, judging by the second panel, her scruffy partner would. she still probably wishes that she knew the spell to keep the heart from tattling from the book of going forth by day, aka the book of the dead.
i wonder how jane would fare in front of the scales — “hmm. my soul is getting fat. better go on a sin diet.”
incidentally, i think the lower class clothes are a good look on jane. they definitely make it easier for her to be an action mummy too.
Comparing her to the other guy, the big difference I see here is she’s not begging Jane to make it stop. She’s willing to accept she was in the wrong, she’s not lying or in denial about it, and she might be willing to change. Her heart may be heavier than the feather, but if she’s not a lost cause yet, then it’s too early to have her soul devoured.
I might hate this lady for trying to shoot Jane, but I get the sense that she could potentially become an ally to her if she does spare her. Having an ex-crooked cop in your pocket would come in handy. Plan for the future, Jane.
Shooting Jane was an accident, most of the rest, is moral weakness, but taking the money was more problematic, more clear-cut. I don’t recall Egyptian deities being particularly forgiving, but we shall apparently see. 🙂
Jane’s got out her grade book and is taking names:
Plays well with others? Needs improvement.
Uses words instead of violence: Did not pass.
Shares toys with others: Needs improvement.

It’ll be interesting to see Jane’s judgement.
I’d let readers vote on the outcome, but I know how that’d go every time: BURN THE WITCH!
Well, the heart is a liiitle bit heavier. Whatever. I want to see the Hippo goddess in action!
I believe the hippo goddess is a fertility deity. We’ll have none of that dirty talk here!
Oh, … you mean Ammit! 😀

I didn’t know there was a spell for that. Hmm, that might come in handy, thanks!

😀 Ten points to Gryffindor!

Put me down as “fascinated”. Well dine! ^^
