And so Jane begins to assemble her team:
“Louis,” the street-smart urchin who’s seen it all.
Flanagan Mehan, the streetwise cop who’s seen too much.
Jane, the catacombs-under-the-streets smart smartass who’s seeing life as it really is.
And Harriet, the chickadee who poops in the street and eats seeds.
She accidently shot a mother superior through the window who fell onto her cat while some blind orphan kids are trapped with their shot saviour in the kitchen that caught fire.
You might like this illustrated children’s book, “The Hole Book” from 1908. It’s about a kid who shoots a gun and the bullet travels through ever scene in the story.

But now I kind of wonder, is Scales of Justice Mummy an entity somehow separate from Jane? Given her track record with bad judgement calls, I get the sense that some other consciousness is influencing her to show a little mercy. Maybe Anubis is actually helping her decide. Or maybe I’m looking too far into it. I have to admit, if Jane was able to keep her cool during judgement after tackling that cop, that’s an impressive display of restraint.
What are the odds that each of the team become a different classic monster? Louis can be a werewolf, Flanagan can become a Frankenstein’s monster, Jane’s a mummy, and Harriet is a vampire, obviously. All they need is a Gillman and they’re set!
I’ve been contemplating a way to introduce all the classic monsters, and I have a unique rationale why it could happen. But, so far every iteration just overly complicates the main story I want tell. Still, who knows…
Let’s hope that stray bullet doesn’t complicate things… They’re already complicated!
I’m glad you noticed that. Bullets always go somewhere; random shooting has consequences. Except in this case. 🙂

“Oh sure, no one ever remembers the ghost. It’s like I’m invisible or something.”

It must have been an extraordinaire gun that did all the damage, but I really love that book.

On advice of counsel I plead the fifth. 😐
Well, that was completely unexpected. I guess dark isn’t always evil.
If you don’t follow the rules then chaos rules. Gotta play by the rules.
