He’s following the Barry Goldwater playbook: “Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.”
Liberty for his rich employers, of course. The underclass? Well, they benefit from a firm hand.
But Jane’s kidnapping? What the hey? That was a bombshell.
Aye, eventually. However this is some rather flawed short term thinking of our good sheriff there. What’s he trying to do? Set the stage for a massive riot so he can, in turn, suppress it and be a hero of the upper class or something?
I know how that story goes, and it does not end well… or as intended.
That’s my bad. I intended to add a line about how the defendants of Jane’s judgements understand who she is due to the mental connection. They don’t see Jane’s memories, just a sense of “I know you”. Like how in some fantasy cultures a person’s name is who they are.

Ah, okay. That seems like a reasonable explanation to me.
well, that’s going to lead to a rather awkward conversation…
Maybe they could discuss it in pantomime? 🙂
People don’t use opera for conversations in this world? Barbarians!
Ok, now that’s some surprise…
