Page 89 – Turn Around
Here’s where Sir Ghosts haughtily exclaims, “I told you so!” I sure hope whatever Jane is up to was worth it.

i like the unfocused backgrounds and speedlines, particularly the way they go diagonal to accentuate jane’s fall. poor lewis. resourceful or not that isn’t exactly an everyday problem. i must work “turn around, jabberwocky!” and especially “cease your galumphing!” into my speech patterns.
I’ve been gradually putting in more modern comic tricks, because darn it they just work. 😀
The pterosaur is named after the monster in Lewis Carol’s silly nonsense poem Jabberwocky, which is also where the word “galumphing” (a blend of ‘gallop’ and ‘triumphant’) comes from.
will there be any snicker-snacking?
Snacking on Snickers, no.
Swinging of swords, yes.
Particularly liked the way “crowbait” got drawn out as the sound receded…
Thanks, Sam. 🙂 I wasn’t sure if it would still be readable or get the idea across, so I’m pleased it worked.
“‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves, did gyre and gimbel in the wabe…he left it dead, and with it’s head, he went galumphing back…” You, sir, have an ear for the Classics. ^^
Being apart from the amulet is really starting to tell on Jane. She shrugged off a much higher fall back in the first chapter of this second book, Page eleven, but this seems to have completely discommoded her.
I knew someone would recognize that poem! 😀 You win a frumious Bandersnatch! Careful, it likes to bite.
Jane is feeling pretty exhausted right about now. All this adventuring without her source of power is certainly taking it’s toll.
Bad Jabberwocky! No treats for you!
That’s good, because a “treat” for that beastie probably means someone’s pet dog or cat.
I like the Lewis Carroll references. 🙂 It must be a hard time for Jane to go to museums without bringing half the exhibits to life.
Who wouldn’t want to bring all the museum exhibits to life? They’d be much more informative and engaging than reading those boring info posters.
An appropriate name for the beast, since Jane’s been going waaaaaay down the rabbit hole
Now I wish I’d found a way to include a moody queen, “Off with ‘er head!”
I will gladly chew on any Alice reference!!!
Galumphing indeed, poor Lewis, now that her comrade-in-arms has fallen
Jane has a very good reason for ditching her friend. 🙂
Maybe she saw the address they were searching for? A familiar shadowy figure silhouetted in a window?
An undamaged pie shop?
“Jane! Stop this crazy thing!”
Jaaaaaaaaaane!
