So there are TWO Janes? That explains some things and raises hitherto unimagined questions.
This story has more layers than a wedding cake. 🙂
Sorry for the late reply, I’ve been sick for a bunch of days.
Only a few more twists and turns. There are maybe 20 more pages to go.
All the faces on this page are heartbreaking, Andy.
Yeah, what the heck is up with Dark Jane? Is she the possessed part of Jane? A side effect of the medallion-or lack of medallion to keep in check?
Jane’s face in that last panel is so great. The expression, the way the bandages hang, the shading and line weight. Everything works so beautifully.
Great almost kiss too, man.
There will be no snogging in this comic, Good Sir! 😉
My theory is still that Dark Jane is actually Anubis or some other god who manifests to look like Jane.
As usual a very good guess. But, not quite. Hehe. I can promise it’s not aliens, but Dark Jane’s identity is gonna have to stay a mystery for awhile. 😛
As I pointed out to Charlie on the Tapastic page, our heroines have both undergone some subtle changes here. Lewis’ spots are gone and Jane is becoming skeletal.
Well, Dark Jane might have her own agenda, but she seems to care about Jane’s desires… I think of her as the broken soul of Jane, a side effect of the curse. Am I close?
In any case, she seems to be more taken by Lewis than ordinary Jane.
Perhaps just more demonstrative–we shall see as the plot unfolds. 🙂
I cannot confirm or deny the true nature of Dark Jane. 😀 Whoever or whatever she is, she may have made things worse between Jane and Lewis. Stay tuned.
egyptians of the period consistent with jane’s judging of the soul thing believed in a multipart soul of which the most important parts were the ka, the life force which left the body after death, and the ba. which was basically the personality. the ba stayed with the body unless released by the proper ceremonies and it was the part that made the journey to judgement. if a ba didn’t get eaten by ammit, it was reunited with its ka to form an akh, which generally then went to the pleasant part of the afterlife in the lands of osiris. i think that dark jane is her ka.
Thank you, Anatman. I’m ashamed to admit I didn’t know about the duality of the ka and ba. This might be useful in the future; I’m still plotting out the next volume, which will flash back to ancient Egypt. There are reasons I’ve been playing a little fast and loose with Egyptian history and theology, but it’s a secret. 🙂
