Such a beautiful page. I love the little smile on panel 4 and the fact that it’s Marry who pulls Lewis in. I also love that the audience all around them aren’t shown at all. This moment doesn’t belong to any of them. Just these three.
Thanks, Hjels. 🙂
Originally there were a few lines of dialog, mom comforting her daughter. But a silent page just seemed like a good idea. Glad it worked for ya.
I see you went the silent route with this one. Good call. It makes the page all the more powerful and I love how it turned out.
I’m concerned about the future for them all, but for the moment, it looks like the worst of this particular encounter may be over, that is, as long as the soon-to-be-former Queen is still in there corner after seeing Jane barbecue some guy. On the one hand, he was a traitor anyway. On the other, she cooked him well-done. Nobody likes their barbecue well-done.
I think the bandages are fooling you on panel 4 – I see tightly squeezed lips – probably fighting not to break down and cry in front of all those around her. But I agree that leaving these three alone on the page is a great touch.
I can’t make up my mind about Marry. She came across as rather silly in Book One, but her sneakiness here and also her perception of Lewis’s importance are changing my views of her. I still think the queen is awesomely practical. But oh, the new “royal family” is going to have tongues wagging all OVER the place! 😀 I love it.
I tried to move your thread, Tru, but wordpress won’t let me do it. You’re right, Jane’s frowning in the fourth panel.
I love your commentary on Marry. And you’re spot on about the queen. More of her coming soon.
Lewis ran to Jane’s defense when she couldn’t speak, so mom had some notion that they’re good friends. I wonder what she’d say if she knew it might be more than that. Granted, I’m still not 100% sure how their relationship will play out myself.
Oh darn, I keep forgetting to show Jane’s necklace. It hasn’t been around for such a long time it’s become a force of habit to not include it.
I’m getting the impression that when/if Jane makes this out of this situation, she won’t be able to go unbandaged in public again, making her brief skin “recovery” a horrible yanking of her chain

This was supposed to post under Hjels… 🙁

Thanks, Melaredblu. Nobody likes overbaked Sheriff, too much gristle.
Marry shows greater perspicacity than I gave her credit for, realizing that such a ragamuffin as Lewis is important to Jane.
I’m guessing that everyone else is too stunned to act, either for good or for ill.

Writers are evil bastards. 😀
A page full of feels!
At what cost has Jane won this battle? Has she indeed won?
Too true. Anything can happen in the next dozen pages left in this volume.
