Vol. 3, Page 53 – Who’s In Charge Here?
UPDATE: No Mummy comic this week (7/24). But, it’s half done so I’ll put it up next monday. And I can’t wait for what’s coming in a few pages… and then after that! Oh boy.

I wonder if he’s ever heard the term “Kicking the dog”……
He’s such a butt. (visual gag) π
Come on kids! Talk out your problems! For some reason I feel like I should’ve picked up on Jane’s aversion, but it was a bit of a pleasant surprise, a nice reveal about her character. I’m sure I could go back and find clues sprinkled throughout.
And can I say, the expressions between the two of them are great! So many things said with a look.
Communication is hard, especially in a new relationship. π
Glad you like their expressions. Up until almost the last minute there was more dialog on this page. Letting their faces speak for themselves turned out much better. Less is more, sometimes.
I may switch the left and right panels in the bottom row, like I did on Tapastic. It’s a minor thing, but I think it flows better and segways nicely into the girl’s discussion on the next page. Do they talk about their feelings? Of course not, they pick on the dog. π
Yeah, I’m with Sir Ezra. That adorable little spy is tap dancing all over their insecurities. At least he makes a handy vampire shield.
He’s the Tyrion Lannister of werewolves. π
If the vampire shows up maybe they can break his little legs and leave him for bait? Too harsh? Sorry, we’ve been listening to a couple zombie audiobooks this week.
Well, the aversion to physical intimacy makes sense, actually. She did lose several years of her life and is still a kid in many respects. Plus, being in the physical condition she’s in probably doesn’t help. Not sure where Lewis’ insecurities are coming from, though. Jane’s actions have never indicated she’d do something like that. Maybe Lewis is simply the type to have those kinds of worries. Abandonment issues, perhaps? Being an orphan, it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
Also, loving that sassy tail swish in the last panel.
i don’t think it has been established how much of a sense of touch Jane retains. (Having her arm chopped in two, for example did not overly discommode her.) It is possible that what tactile sensations she experiences only annoy her.
I quire agree with your evaluation of Lewis, as it seems very plausible.
I also have a feeling they never hashed out exactly what their relationship is, which could also contribute to the fear. Lewis may want to know that their relationship is more secure, and Jane hasn’t given her that confirmation yet.
Lewisβ insecurities come mainly from two places. She’s a worrier. Having taken care of her little gang, looking out for their next meal, made her a vigilant pessimist. Even when she’s outwardly jocular.
And now she and her gang are entirely dependant on Jane. Who apparently hasn’t been very cuddly and is probably bi. Which of course leads Lewis to assume the worst.
LOOK OUT SHES GOT A KNIFE!
