Here I split the difference, with a large spoonful of creative liberties. The RU2 robot a LOT more nimble than an analogue machine should be, but it’s not really “smart” in an NLP sense. It mistook JC for a teapot and tried to put him into the tea cup, as it was programmed to do.
The question is, why did it start back up after being shut down? 😉
At least he died doing what he loved. Getting crushed by… Oh, I guess not…
Gotta say, you’re pretty good a lulling us into a false sense of security. I figured we had some breathing room after the crazy opening to the chapter, but no. Never safe, are we? Also, dipping into her creepy mummy powers while they’re going fritzy can only lead to good things, right? Maybe Jane should accept that it was JC’s time… …to get crushed by…
Thank you. Keeping you guys on your toes is hard and rewarding work. 😀
Anubis has a habit of taking over Jane when she’s emotionally charged (which is often), so I’m sure everything will work out just fine. Everything is fine.gif
At least death isn’t immutable in this universe, evidenced by the title character– but then, that may make a tragic accident a prelude to an even worse crisis…
In real life, robots are good workers doing repetitive tasks. In fiction, they gain sentience and become killers.

And Harriet gets a companion. “Fix” may be a bit of an overstatement.
A little duct-tape, wire and wax and he’ll be good as new. 😀 Better even!
“You’re not…”
Dead? Mauled by a robot? Uhh, something tells me Jane isn’t gonna like what she finds when she judges this guy’s soul…
“You’re not…” something something [spoilers] 😉
JC couldn’t possibly be any worse than the others Jane has judged. Even Harriet has a shady past.
